Today, we had a chance to sit down with Barbara Methven, the CEO and Founder of BMC Industrial Sales, Inc. With over 20 years in the wire and cable industry, Methven brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her customers in both the industrial and entertainment industries. 

We had the chance to ask her a few questions about her business and what drives some of her passion and success today. 

When did you start BMC Industrial? And how long have you been in business? 

I started my company in 2012 and have been in business for 12 years. I have worked in the industry since 1996 and then formed my company along the way, working with different customers in the industry. 

What was your inspiration for getting into the industry?

Funny you ask, I like to say it was meant to be. At the time I was working in the industry and had such a great experience working with my customers, it sort of happened as a natural transition that I eventually branched out on my own.   

What do you think your competitive advantage is in the industry? 

The hands-on customer service that I provide my customers definitely sets us apart from the rest. As a smaller company, I can get orders done more efficiently and quickly without so many layers of approval. The speed of service that we can provide is unmatched. 

When customers can pick up the phone and get an answer right away, that’s a peace of mind. 

What do you love about your business and working with your customers? What’s your favorite part? Hands down, my number one favorite thing that drives me everyday is working with my customers. I’m friends with my customers and love visiting them to spend one-on-one time. I know their needs and am ready to help them out quickly. They know they can call me up at the last minute for help and we’ll pull through. 

Who is your ideal customer for someone who wants to work with you?

Right now, I work primarily in the entertainment and industrial industry. My ideal customer is a small to medium based business, where you still get to work one-on-one and build personal relationships. 

What’s the best way for new customers to reach out? 

Most customers reach out via phone or through the contact form. I love to hear from new people.
